Business Challenge
- Governments and the emergency services have to predict and respond to an increasing number of natural disasters
- Lack of common practices across different countries can delay and hinder the response
Our Solution
- Lead a consortium of 14 organisations to design and implement a standards based Service Oriented Architecture
- Develop and implement applications for:
- Flash floods and forest fires in North East Spain
- Effects of earthquakes / floods on road traffic on the French / Italian border
- Impact of ship traffic on pollution in the German Bight
- Forest fires and floods on a pan-European level
The Results
- Improved service efficiency through improved access to risk management information
- Reduced costs through increased interoperability and standardisation
- Contributed to interoperability standards on a global level
- ORCHESTRA is currently being applied in:
- the tsunami early warning system in the Indian Ocean (DEWS project)
- the EO2HEAVEN project (assessing impact of environmental factors on healthcare), which contributes to an OGC (Open Geospatial Consortium) testbed and a GEOSS (Global Earth Observation System of Systems) pilot
- the Basque Country (MUGAGABE project)
- a pilot for the 112 Emergency Services of Andalucía (Spain)
